Northeastern Rails 1995-1999

There were yet more changes for railroads in the northeast from 1995 to 1999. Action includes Iron Roads Railway's Bangor & Aroostook and Canadian American Railroads. On the St.L&A, CN MLW's were operating once again. In Massachusetts, the P&W's Providence to Worcester line is documented. The shortline Grafton and Upton was senn in a rare and, perhaps, final move from Grafton to Upton. No change was greater than the acquisition of Conrail by CSX. Providence and Worcester Coal Trains on the D&H

In early 2006, the Providence and Worcester Railroad , already proven to be an innovator in the Northeast, took another step forward. This time, with the cooperation of four other railroads, the P&W moved seven trains of coal from the port of Providence to a power plant located west of Binghamton, NY. The trains sported P&W power as far as Binghanton. This progrom shows these trains on the south end of the D&H, where a combination of challenging grades and classic D&H architecture provide a wonderful backdrop! Also included are many of the other trainsthat operated on these days.

Railfanning SW British Columbia

This program dates back to 1987. British Columbia Ry, CP Rail and Canadian National are covered. Every train still carried a caboose. CP and CN still used their own iron on opposite sides of the Fraser and Thompson River canyons. BCR was still robust and was running lots of big ALCO/MLW locomotives. The Royal Hudson steam excursion was in full service. And, the scenery is spectacular!

This is the Guilford RR System

It began in 1982 when Timothy Mellon purchased the Maine Central, Boston and Maine and Delaware and hudson railroads creating a major northeast system. Unfortunately, the potential was never realized when labor/management conflicts led to bankruptcy on the D&H. The MEC and the B&M continued on as Guilford Transportation industries under the labor rules of the tiny Springfield Terminal railroad. For several reasons, traffic was diverted to Conrail and the Guilford tracks west of Ayer, MA, carried little traffic. When Conrail was split between NS and CSX, with CSX getting Conrail's Boston line, NS backed Guilford in the upgrading of clearances in the Hoosac Tunnel to allow competition to Boston. Traffic returned to the line between Rotterdam Junction and Ayer.
