Coastliners- Part 1, covers the Coast Line from Los Angeles through Santa Barbara/Goleta. Valhalla taped along the coast line since the early 1990's. Following the format established in Valhalla’s previous coastal production, Surf Line Commuters, the program features lineside and on-board scenes covering the route in great detail.Three working wig wags are shown in action. Valhalla caught these relics of the past just in time. The wig wag at Seacliff is now gone, and the others are living on borrowed time as Union Pacific upgrades the line.
Among the many locations seen are Los Angeles Union Station, Burbank Junction, the Chatsworth tunnels, Santa Susana Pass, Camarillo, Oxnard, Ventura, Seacliff, Carpinteria, Santa Barbara, and Goleta. There is extensive coverage of the tracks right along the ocean. You’ll marvel at the rock steady on-board scenes taken along the beach, depicting the coast line in all its beauty. Also shown are some of the block signs and signals which are part of S.P.’s direct traffic control (DTC), soon to be abolished by U.P. And, at the conclusion of the video there is a Metrolink shop tour, and an on-board view of the S.P. Taylor Yard engine facility from 1994. 59 Minutes. VHS and DVD Format.
