In this volume, we feature the Progressive Rail. This fascinating short line operates 5 different rail lines in east central Minnesota. We capture all 5 lines with run-by’s and switching at many industries.
The Northfield to Lakeville line is an ex-Minneapolis, Northfield and Southern Route. Progressive Rail purchased this line from the Canadian Pacific in 2004 and operates a daily train each way using an ex-MN&S SD-39 and a former Reserve Mining SD 38-2 in an inspired MN&S paint scheme.
The Progressive Rail also uses two ex MN&S SW-1500’s, along with other SW-1500’s in the MN&S scheme on their other routes. The Highline is another ex-MN&S line that runs through the Minneapolis suburb of Bloomington. The Eagandale line is an ex-Milwaukee Road route that runs from Rosemount to industries in Eagan. You will also see two routes that originate in Northfield including the ex-Chicago Great Western line to Randolph and an in-cab experience on the trackage rights train to Faribault.
Progressive Rail also operates a warehouse facility in the Airlake Industrial Park in Lakeville. We see operations around the warehouse facility as the PGR serves several customers in the Industrial Park complex.
