Along The New River

CSX coal trains on the New River Sub, deep in West Virginia. We start our visit at Hinton, then follow the tracks through Prince, with it's Art Deco depot, over the mountain to Thurmond, and along the gorge to Montgomery. You'll see the trains far below from the overlooks, and up close and personal from trackside. We visit the big bridges at Cunard and Hawks Nest, and catch the Gauley shifter with it's caboose. UP makes an appearance, together with Amtrak's Cardinal, a number of lease units and brand new SD70ACe's. R.J. Corman now operates the Loup Creek branch from Thurmond, and we catch bright red geeps in the highly scenic valley. Narration On/Off feature!

A Salute to the Warbonnet

A tribute to the best loved paint scheme in America, the classic red and silver Santa Fe "warbonnet" passenger paint scheme, resurected in 1989 and applied to freight locomotives for fast intermodal service. We take a look at this spectacular paint scheme in current service at many favorite railfan locations on Cajon Pass, Tehachapi Pass, and the Mojave and Seligman Subs, and give you a brief history of the warbonnet paint and it's reintroduction in 1989, and look at the types of locomotives wearing it. 2 Hours.

Along The Feather River

Nine days of charging up and down the Canyon went into this tape, they weren't running many trains! Sometimes it was hard to tell just who the railroad belonged to, BNSF has trackage rights and sent everything they had, and of course UP is a mix of UP, SP, and CNW, plus leased power, a veritable rainbow of color. We covered the line from Oroville to Portola, including the horseshoe at James, the bridges at Pulga, Rock CreeK, Keddie, Clio and lots more. Serpentine Canyon is just a photographers delight, and we got some shots at the RR Museum at Portola. Caught some rock dumping and MOW for a little variety.

Beijing's Colorful Trains

Colorful indeed, with a wild variety of colors, including some very strange schemes indeed. We take you to Fengtai, on the outskirts of the city for diesel freights and passenger trains, and electric hauled passenger and freight trains. Fengtai station is at the end of a hump yard, so we also see DF7's switching (a Fairbanks-Morse lookalike, sort of). Next it's off to Dahuichang for diesel hauled freights and a few passenger trains, and the famed limestone railway, with it's 2' 6" gauge 0-8-0's. We visit an unidentified junction for electric freights, and after being sent away by the police and China Rail officials we visit a more friendly grade crossing for the double unit 8K electric locomotives and a variety of industrial type units. Then it's off to the Beijing City Wall for an overlook at Central Station, and finally we visit a yard, where the staff invited us in and showed us where to set up! Impressive railroading! 2 hours 20 minutes. 2 DVD SET

BNSF Galloping Through Gallup

We carry on eastwards from where we left off in "Superfleet & Sagebrush, into BNSF's Gallup Sub, from Winslow, Arizona to Belen, New Mexico. It's now completely different, with lots of dash 9's in Heritage 2 paint, though there are still some warbonnets around. Lots of intermodals, and lots of different paint schemes, another colorful railroad for sure, and a busy one! 105 Minutes.

BNSF's Trinchera Pass

Trinchera Pass is on BNSF's Twin Peaks sub, and runs between Trinidad, Colorado and Texline, Texas, crossing New Mexico. The line is due to start directional running in July, so we paid a visit before it happens. The line mostly hosts coal trains, with a few manifests for variety. The tracks climb and curve along the side of the mountains before heading along the plateau to Texas. A scenic piece of railroad, I even caught a train in an afternoon thunderstorm, lots of lightning! 90 Minutes.

RS18's, C424's, an RS36 and M630's all make an appearance, together with all the other odds and ends to be found on 1993/4's D&H, including 'Gators, Ghosts and Guilford. You'll be trackside in rain, fog, snow and sunshine for some great D&H action - you'll love engineer Mike Green putting on an incredible show with two Alco's, two SD's and a LOT of smoke, these shots are worth the price alone. 110 Minutes.

Buffalo and Pittsburgh

The B&P runs between its namesake cities using orange SD45s for power. Hauling coal and manifest traffic through the scenic hills and valleys of Pensylvania and New York, these ex SP monsters put on a great show. Over 300 trains and 1,000,000 people use Howrah Station, across the Hoogly River from Calcutta, every day! 5' 6" gauge trains, with people hanging from the doors, EMU's and both diesel and electric hauled passenger trains, from locals to Rajdhani Expresses. The trains are colorful and full of character, the diesel locomotives are Indian built Alco models, delightfully smokey, in a variety of types and colors. Howrah, with swarms of people everywhere, is India's largest station. We also visit Kamarkundu Junction and Kolaghat Junction for more passenger trains and some freight trains.

C420-Alcos On The Apache And Arkansas & Missouri

One of our favorite locomotice builders is the American Locomotive Company of Schenectady, New York, and our favorite Alco is the Century 420. Two railroads roster fleets of C420s, Arizona's Apache, and Arkansas' Arkansas & Missouri. We visited both railroads in 1998 for the pure pleasure of it, and this tape is the result of our journeys. See these pretty locomotives doing what they do best, lugging freight. Both roads keep thier locomotives in immaculate condition. 60 Minutes

Change In The Tehachapi's - BNSF's Mojave Sub

BNSF's Mojave sub runs from Barstow to Bakersfield, California, crossing the Mojave Desert and the Tehachapi Mountains in the process. From Mojave to Bakersfield, BNSF uses trackage rights on the UP (former SP). Both BN/SF and UP/SP mergers are in full swing, and the line is a riot of coloful locomotives, the mountains are wearing spring green and traffic is heavy, we even had a surprise visit from the 6936, making for some awesome railfanning. If you can't visit the Tehachapi's in spring, this tape is the next best thing. All the famous locations and then some. Taped in April, 1999. 2 Hours

Crawford Hill Revisted

Join us for a return visit to BNSF's Nebraska helper district, where heavy coal trains struggle up the 1.55% grade over Pine Ridge and through Crawford Hill's famous twin horseshoe curves. Lots of sound and fury as sets of SD70MAC's assault the grade aided by sets of SD60M helpers. You'll also see older power on manifests and intermodals, including former Santa Fe "warbonnets" and Cascade Green SD40-2's. Awesome action and heavy duty railroading through deep cuts, around horseshoe curves and up steep grades! 2 Hours

Crawford Hill

This was a spur of the moment trip before Chris went off to RIT in the Fall of '95. Started badly with the plane from Boston breaking its rubber band, then it's not real scenic between Scott's Bluff and Crawford so I thought the trip was going to be a bust. Not so, the Crawford Horseshoes are just awesome, and there was plenty of traffic. Lots of SD7OMAC's and enough older power to keep things interesting. Even saw the "Trough Train," which is just amazing. 2 Hours

CSX On The Chicago Line

Taped in August, 1999, merger day plus 85. Conrail's Chicago Line now belongs to CSX, so we took a look at the line between Selkirk and Buffalo to see what was happening. Power is half CSX and half re-numbered Conrail, with leased units and run-through power making for some colorfull railroading. Lots of traffic keeps the action going continuously. Some familiar locations plus some new. Check out the changes on the Chicago Line, you won't be sorry. Includes previews. 1 hr 45 minutes
  $35.95

Curtis Hill

Curtis Hill, Oklahoma is still a major bottleneck on BNSF's former Santa Fe transcon between Chicago and Los Angeles. The east slope of the hill was double tracked in 1995, the west side is currently being double tracked, but there is still the single track over the Cimarron River. Curtis Hill is also the location of the longest continuous curve on the former Santa Fe between Chicago & LA. Loads of action, with fleeted trains, lots of different power. Taped in May, 2004. 90 Minutes.

East Broad Top Fall Spectacular 1996

What an absolutely fabulous place the EBT is. One of the things I enjoyed most was being able to wander around the shop complex and just soak up the atmosphere and imagine how it must have been in its heyday. Largely unspoiled and unchanged in decades, with four narrow gauge Mikes in steam over the Fall Spectacular weekend, it was a real treat to see and experience. The EBT runs passenger and freight trains for two glorious days. 90 Minutes.

F40

EMD’s F40 is the engine that saved Amtrak, powering the nation’s passenger trains for 25 years. Now about at the end of it’s career with Amtrak, the F40 soldiers on in commuter service, and leased to other carriers like CSX and the Ski Train. See the F40 in action on Amtrak, CSX, CalTrain, ACE, MBTA, Metra, the Ski train, Pandrol Jackson, in freight service on the UP, on the Iron Road with a chopped nose, and as cab control cars. 1 Hour

Feather River Cab Ride

From Rowlingstock Productions of Australia, we present "Feather River cab Ride". Ride the cab of a UP C40-8W from Stockton up into the Feather River Canyon, with numerous meets, untill darkness stops the tapeing. Next day we see some trackside views in the canyon, then at Portola, where we join an SD60M for a ride down the canyon. Taped by Colin Eggleston, edited by Rowlingstock. 102 Minutes.

Flags, Flares and Wings

Union Pacific's SD70m's Across The Southwest. UP's newest power working hard across the Southwest in New Mexico, Arizona and California. Scenic highlights include Steins Mountain, the Dragoon Mountain, the Maricopa Mountains, the Salton Sea and San Timeteo Canyon on Beaumont Hill. I've always liked SD70M's, but with the flaired radiators and the "Building America" flag paint, I think they are really handsome engines. See and hear them flying across the desert and lugging up grades. 2 Hours.
