Power from Conrail, CSX, CN, CP, GT, BN, SF, SP, BNSF, IHB, IAIS, UP, CNW and a variety of lease units make for some colorful railroading. Power from switchers to GP9's, SD20's to SD75's, C36's to AC60's, loads of variety. 11 hours and 47 train movements, not counting METRA on the old Rock Island. 90 minutes.

Hot Spots 2: Berea

Berea, Ohio is the point that CSX's Columbus line and NS's Chicago line meet, just to the south of Cleveland. Power is divided pretty evenly between CSX, NS and former Conrail units, plus some run-through power. With 50 movements in 12 hours, this can be a busy place. 60 minutes.

Hot Spots 3: Rosenberg

Rosenberg, Texas, about 35 miles southwest of Houston, is one of the last two operating towers in Texas still in their original buildings. BNSF crosses UP's busy Sunset Route, making for some colorful and busy railroading. Both UP & BNSF have small yards here, with locals, and orders are hooped up to trains going from the BNSF to the UP. See all the action at rosenberg from dawn to after dark. 90 minutes.

  DVD $24.95

Hot Spots 4: Bellevue

BELLEVUE, Ohio is one of NS's busiest yards, with 3 major routes leading into the west end of the yard. Taped on a sunny, frigid day in February, 2000, with some lovely late afternoon light. Power is just about everything NS owns, some Conrail, and visits from the Wheeling and Lake Erie, CN and leased power. 85 minutes.
  DVD $24.95

Hot Spots 5: Selkirk, NY

Selkirk, New York is the biggest yard in the Northeast, and is now owned by CSX. We spent two frigid days at Selkirk in February, 2000 to bring you CSX in the snow from both ends of the yard. The west end for the Chicago Line and the east end for the Boston Line, the River Line and the branch to the Port of Albany. Selkirk has always been an exciting place to railfan, and is even more so when the snow flies. Check out the Notheast's favorite hot spot! 85 minutes.

Hot Spots 6: Gary, Indiana

Pine Junction in Gary, Indiana is our #6 hot spot, and what a hot day of railfanning we had, with 75 trains in just over 12 hours, has to be our best day yet! CSX, NS and the EJ&E all come together at Pine, plus we saw power from Conrail, UP, SP, CNW, SOO, CP, BN, BNSF, SF, South Shore and Amtrak, and the "J" has orange, green and ex DM&IR maroon. Hot Spots 7: Dolton

Dolton, Illinois, is where CSX & UP cross the Harbor Belt on Chicago's south side. Dolton, apart from being really ugly, has a lot of trains and an active tower. I was fortunate enough to be invited into the tower by towerman Ralph on two afternoons, which was really good, since I got some nice interior shots, and out of the rain. The train of the day is the bottle train, taking molten steel from one mill to another, in big insulated, I guess bottle cars. I saw power from UP, CSX, NS, CR, BNSF, CP, IHB, ST.L&H, WC, SOO, and a bunch of leasers. Since Ralph was nice enough to give me lineups, I was able to identify most trains. 90 minutes.
  DVD $24.95

Hot Spots 8: Daggett

Daggett, California is the point that UP's line from Salt Lake City meets BNSF's transcontinental mainline just east of the big yard at Barstow. Lots of intermodal, autorack and manifest traffic moving right along, powered by just about everything the two roads own.
