Trackside 2

Trackside 2 is a magazine format program, and in this issue #2 you can see a late afternoon and evenings worth of action at Joliet, Illinois, south of Chicago on BNSF's main line. Amtrak and Metra (F40PHs and "Winnebagos") and an Iowa Interstate train with geeps make for diverse action. Next is Fall action on CSX's famed Sand Patch Grade where a couple of Chessie painted units show up. The final section of the program is the Livonia, Avon and Lakeville on a glorious September 1999 morning. We chased the train, led by a C424 and a C425 with an RS1 on the rear to bring you some super Alco action. 85 Minutes.

Triple Track Two

(O'Fallons to Gibbon Junction) Our most requested sequel! Taped between O'Fallons and Gibbon Junction on Union Pacific's Overland Route, this is the busiest piece of freight railroad in North America, averaging over 125 trains a day. Coal trains, grain trains, drag freights, autoracks and speeding intermodals all pound the rails for continuous heavy duty action, with loads of meets, lots of new "wings" and some run through power. Taped from dawn to sunset over several days in August 2002, this is big time railroading at it's best. 2 Hours
  $35.95

Union Pacific Over Beaumont Hill

The former Southern Pacific Sunset Route east of San Bernadino, California. Taped over 2 springs and a summer, there is still lots of SP power around, plus older UP power, though the merger is really starting to show. This is helper country, usually SD45's, sometimes on the head end, sometimes on the rear. The line runs through the orange groves of the scenic San Timeteo Canyon, over Beaumont Summit and down to the desert. Lots of action. 2 Hours.
  $35.95

Union Pacific's Little Rock Sub

This is actually three subs, the Little Rock, White Bluff and Pine Bluff subs. Directional running through the pine trees of Arkansas, between Texarkana and Little Rock, Little Rock and Pine Bluff and Pine Bluff and Texarkana. Lots of older power and a number of depots still standing. I caught the Little Rock & Western with its C420's at Little Rock Union Station, and got permission to be in the yard at Pine Bluff. For the third time in my career, I got two trains comeing at me side by side! BNSF has trackage rights over both the Little Rock sub and the Pine Bluff sub. Taped in fall, 1999. Includes previews. One Hour 45 Minutes.
  $35.95

Union Pacific's Oregon Blues

The La Grande Sub. Oregon's Blue Mountains, known as The Blues, are a formidable challenge to the trains of Union Pacific. 2.2% grades and tight curves means helpers, and UP uses distributed power on heavy trains. Join us as we follow the La Grande Sub from Hinkle Yard to Huntington, through the scenic Blue Mountains of Oregon. Big trains twisting and turning through the mountains, and our first look at Union Pacific's newest power, the SD70M "Wings". 90 Minutes.
  $29.95

Union Pacific's Salt Lake Route

The inspiration came from Mark Hemphill's superb book. We cover the line from east of Barstow, through the scenic splendors of Afton Canyon, along the access road through the Devil's Playground to Kelso, up Cima Hill, down through the Ivanpah Valley, over Erie Summit and beyond Las Vegas to Meadow Valley Wash. A superb piece of railroad. 2 Hours.

UP On The Sunset Route

It's all change in Arizona, and anything goes on UP's former SP Sunset Route these days, from brand new SD90MAC's to scruffy tunnel motors, CNW C44's to an SP SD7, SP AC's to elderly C36's. UP puts on quite a show in the magnificent scenery of Southern Arizona, from Steins on the New Mexico border all the way to Yuma on the California border. Slogging up the mountains to racing across the desert, coal trains to double stack, we caught all the action. 2 Hours.
  $35.95

UP's Triple Track Main

(North Platte to Gibbon) Awesome action on the busiest piece of freight railroad in the world, with an average of 125 trains in 24 hours. Loads of SD90/43MAC's and C6044AC's on manifests, coal trains and intermodals, plus CNW and SP power, and run-throughs. UP is working on triple tracking the complete line between North Platte and Gibbon Junction, the trains follow in a constant parade. On the day we actually counted, we saw 85 between 6:30 am and 9:00 pm, this really is big time railroading. This is a tape for motive power fans, exciting and fast paced, with LOTS of meets. Say farewell to famous Buttermilk Curve, it's being straightened and we caught plenty of action there. See aerial views of Bailey Yard, biggest in the world, and some stunning sunset scenes. 2 Hours.

Vienna's Colorful Trains

Austrian, German, Hungarian and Czech power at Vienna's Sudbahnhoff, Westbahnhoff and Meidling, Austria's busiest railway station. Then it's off to the main line west to Saint Polten, with international and long distance trains, locals and freights. We spend some time at Saint Polten after seeing trains along the route, where in addition to the bustle of the main line trains we see the narrow gauge Mariazellerbahn. Finally we follow the main line south over scenic Semmering Pass. Includes a brief look at the control room at Semmering. Narration On/Off feature!

2 hours Fullscreen DVD / Wide Screen DVD.

Winter In The Wasatch

Superb winter sunshine on stunning Soldier Summit in Utah's Wasatch Mountains. Heavy coal drags charging up-grade with 6 unit sets of Utah Railway helpers, or a six unit set of Rio Grande tunnel motors, plus BNSF on trackage rights, all in gorgous December sunshine. The second half of the program is Union Pacific in Weber and Echo Canyons with a variety of traffic, power is everything UP has, including brand new AC6000ís. Superb light and lots of action. 2 Hours.

Winter On Marias Pass

Continuing our very popular winter theme, we visited Marias Pass in January, 2002. Heavy snow and 70 m.p.h. winds marked our visit, and BNSF celebrated by dumping a westbound intermodal off the bridge at East Glacier on the Saturday night. We taped some of the cleanup work on Sunday morning, and caught the first train to pass the wreck. Lots of dash 9's in both Heritage schemes, and a number of warbonnets, plus SD40-2's, including some still wearing Cascade Green. Taped between Blackfoot and West Glacier, all the favorite locations including Two Medicine Bridge, Spotted Robe, Bison, False Summit, Marias, Java, and Essex, and the weather goes from sunshine to heavy snow. One Hour 45 Minutes.

Winter On The B&A

Another of my favorites. We spent many days plodding up and down the Mass Pike in some nasty weather. We caught the Lake Shore head headlight to headlight with a freight at Charlton, with a stalled snow blower on the passing track. We were on Washington Hill in a two foot blizzard, I'm still surprised we got out but it made for some great shots. Great WInter Action. 2 Hours.

Winter On The Moffat Route

Continuing on our very popular winter series, we take a look at the Moffat Route west of Denver through the Colorado Rockies. We see Union Pcific coal trains with distributed power, with former SP and UP AC units, BNSF trackage rights trains, Amtrak, and the Ski train with 3 former Amtrak F40's painted in a Rio Grande like scheme. Taped in January, 2001, we see and hear trains working hard in sunshine and heavy snow in the scenic splendor of the Rocky Mountains. 2 Hours.

Winter On The Montana Rail Link

Montana Rail Link in February, 1997. We worked our way from Huntley over Bozeman Hill, Winston Hill and Mullan Pass, along the Clark Fork with its semaphores to the famous causeway near Sand Point. We had lots of snow, blowing around in the sunshine on Bozeman, sunshine and heavy snow on Mullan, and got out to the old Milwaukee Trestle at Lombard (what a drive on snow covered dirt roads that was). We caught just about all the power MRL has to offer including F45's, GP9's and a caboose, BN power including the new C44's in Heritage paint, and even an 11 unit lashup in heavy snow. Awesome railroad with older power in the depths of winter. 2 Hours.

Winter On The Tennessee Pass

Well it's gone. This really was the last winter for Tennessee Pass and what a pity it had to close. Taped in January 1997 with lots of snow and sunshine and superb scenery. This is one of the best tapes I've done, and getting on for being my best seller, it got good reviews in both "Trains" and "Railfan" magazines. Excellent trip, I only got dragged out of one ditch and had to be towed out of Pando by a wrecker. Seriously though, the scenery is just magnificent, the trains are working hard, and the sight and sound of 4 head end AC's, 4 AC swing helpers and 2 AC's on the rear of a mammoth coal train grinding through the double S-curves at Mitchell is an unforgettable experience. 2 Hours.

Winter On The Wisconsin Central

Winter action on the Wisconsin Central in January, 1999. We visited a couple of hot-spots, Junction City and Byron Hill for all the action. Lots has changed since our visit in 1996, welded rail is now in place, train speeds are higher and CN has trackage rights. WC, CN, CP, NS, CSX and Conrail in fair weather and foul, everything from bright sunny and frigid days to heavy snow, and raw ugly rain. One Hour.

Wisconsin Central's English, Welsh & Scottish

Wisconsin Central took over most of Britain's freight railroad in 1996, forming the English, Welsh & Scottish Railway. Join us as we visit in October, 1998 for a look at operations. We visited 6 of Britain's hot spots, Milford Junction for coal and EMD class 59s, Warrington on the electrified west Coast main line, Peak Forest for stone, Barnetby with its magnificent arrays of semaphores and one of the busiest spots in the country, Colton Junction, where the Leeds line joins the electrified East Coast main line. and Newport for steel and new EMD class 66s. Exciting high density railroading, with freights mixed up with 125 mph passenger trains. 2 Hours.

Wisconsin Central

One of our favorite locomotive types is the SD45 and it's variants, so since WC has lots of SD45's and some F45's, it seemed like a natural to shoot. WC was very nice to us, we got tours of the dispatchers office and shops at Stevens Point, and a tour of the shops at Fond du Lac. We caught a GP3O and SDL39 on Byron Hill, a taconite train on the hill with 2 SP AC's and 2 WC units, DM&IR SD9's, UP run through trains, lots of SD45's, some SD24's and an SD35, F45's and boy d0 they look good in WC paint, and a Saturn getting nailed by the local in Black Creek. Our best selling tape ever! 2 Hours.

Zurich's Colorful Trains

Spend Sunday afternoon on the main station in Zurich, Switzerland, with 64 trains in one hour, including French and Italian. Then we head down to the Gotthard Line for a look at both passenger and freight trains. Amazing action, and they run to time! 2 Hours.
