'The Creek', Coon Creek Junction, Minnesota

Coon Creek Junction sits in the northern Minneapolis suburb of Coon Rapids, Minnesota. This spot offers an awesome display of railroading any railfan will enjoy!

Coon Creek is a point where the Burlington Northern Santa Fe's Staples Sub from Minneapolis to Fargo, comes together with the Hinckley Sub from Minneapolis to the Twin Ports of Duluth and Superior. Besides BNSF trains, the Hinckley Sub also sees traffic from Canadian Pacific (ex-Soo Line), Union Pacific (ex-C&NW), and Canadian National.

Enjoy many types of trains with a wide variety of motive power at one of the Twin Cities busiest railroading spots!

A Tribute To The SOO Line

If you are a fan of the Soo Line, you'll love this video! Since the Canadian Pacific Railway took over the Soo Line in the early 1990's, it has become a rare sight to see Soo Line locomotives leading trains, especially on original Soo Line tracks. Most Soo locomotives were being sold or repainted, while others were reassigned to service in Canada. C. Vision Productions has captured the images of these red and white locomotives in, "A Tribute to the Soo Line." Our crew traveled the original Soo Line on the Paynesville Subdivision from Glenwood to Minneapolis, Minnesota to capture the Soo locomotives leading trains. We also followed the Soo on the old Milwaukee Road main line following the Mississippi River from St. Paul to River Junction.

Five main locomotive types from the Soo Line are featured in this program. Venerable SD 40 dash 2's, GP 38 dash 2's and GP 40's can be seen pulling freight through the rolling prairies of Minnesota, along with the larger SD 60's and SD 60M's. We even see Soo Line cabooses still in use on way freights and locals! Each train is also identified by its symbol.

Don't miss "A Tribute to the Soo Line," as it is one of the last videos to show you these original locomotives in charge of moving commodities across the upper Midwest.

BNSF Crossing The Cornbelt Vol 2

A Revisit To The Marshall Subdivision - We had such a wonderful time documenting this line, we wanted to do it again! In this video, C. Vision revisits the Marshall Subdivision, this time starting in Sioux City, Iowa, and then northward to Willmar, Minnesota. New trains, including their symbols, are seen traversing the main line through the cornfields of Iowa, South Dakota, and Minnesota. New merger paint schemes, along with the traditional colors are seen pulling many types of freights. A bonus segment of the tape takes us over the Wayzata Sub to Minneapolis and a glimpse of Northtown Yard! If you crave variety in BNSF railroading "Midwest Style", both volumes are a must for your collection!

Bnsf Crossing The Cornbelt Volume 1

The Marshall Subdivision - If you crave variety, this tape has it! The Marshall Subdivision of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe runs from Willmar, Minnesota, to Sioux City, Iowa. This line runs through the rich farmlands of the upper Midwest. There is plenty of variety on this line. Many unit grain trains are common, along with coal trains, taconite trains, general freights and locals. 20 different locomotive models pull 60 trains throughout the video, along with an "in cab" view of the Garretson branch line from Sioux Falls to Garretson, South Dakota. Eight different road names appear, either heading a train or helping within the locomotive consist, along with many leased units as well.

BNSF On The Banks of the Mississippi

Come along with C. Vision Productions and tour the St. Croix Subdivision of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe. We document the St. Croix Sub as it follows the Mississippi River from La Crosse, Wisconsin to St. Croix Junction south of St. Paul, Minnesota. This mostly double track main line is a part of the BNSF’s northern Transcontinental Mainline from Chicago to the Pacific Northwest. With the addition of the major hub of Minneapolis and St. Paul, this line has plenty of high speed railroad action!

Watch 60 mile per hour intermodal trains waste no time hauling high priority freight. Other mainline general freight trains and grain trains also make their way along the St. Croix Sub. You will be amazed by the variety of motive power. Older SD-40 dash 2’s are still common. General Electric Dash 9-44CW’s and newer GE ES-44DC’s also head up trains in both the Heritage 2 and the new “Swoosh” style paint schemes. We also capture ex-Santa Fe GE power including Dash 8-40BW’s!

This subdivision is full of spectacular scenery. Sit back as we take you high atop of Buena Vista Park in Alma, Wisconsin. This location provides an awesome vantage point to watch trains rolling through this picturesque river town. We also capture several trains crossing the St. Croix River lift bridge in Prescott, Wisconsin. The Mississippi River valley provides an array of tree covered bluffs creating beautiful backdrops for the numerous trains that travel this line.

Combining the natural beauty of the Mississippi River valley, and the images of BNSF trains, this video is one that you will want to watch again and again!

Chicago & North Western The Cowboy Lines Vol 2, 'Remembering The Cowboy'

C. Vision brings you the final chapter of the Chicago and North Western's operations of its Western Division before its merging into the Union Pacific Railroad on April 25, 1995. This video will show you some of the rare footage of the original "Cowboy Line" from Norfolk to Chadron, Nebraska. This line was abandoned by the C&NW after December 2, 1992. The Nebkota Railway revived a portion of this line. At the time of production, Nebkota operated the line with a set of A-B-A "F" units. We catch a Nebkota train operating in the northern sandhills region of Nebraska.

The majority of movement on the west end lines by the North Western was on the Colony Line from Colony, Wyoming to Dakota Junction in Nebraska. C. Vision's cameras capture C&NW operations in the final years of its existence on this line. Included is one of the last C&NW trains in operation before the final merger.

Negotiations and rumors spread as to what the Union Pacific was going to do with this section of railroad. Then, in February of 1996, it became publicly known that U.P. had sold the Colony Line to the Dakota Minnesota and Eastern. Soon after the sale, C. Vision's cameras captured a few runbys as DM&E's Mount Rushmore locomotive pulls a train from Belle Fourche to Rapid City.

Don't miss this video as it relives the history of this great fallen flag, up until its final hours. "Remembering the Cowboy" is a video that belongs in your collection today!

CP Along The Mighty Mississippi

Travel along with C. Vision Productions as we tour the Canadian Pacific’s River Subdivision in eastern Minnesota. The River Sub is an ex-Milwaukee Road main line that travels along the western banks of the Mississippi River from St. Paul to La Crescent. This magnificent area is full of beauty and nature, which provides numerous photo opportunities.

The River Sub handles many different types of trains from the Canadian Pacific. Adding to the mix, I & M Rail Link trains operate over the River Sub via trackage rights on its St. Paul to Kansas City route. Amtrak’s “Empire Builder” uses this line for its route between Chicago and the Pacific Northwest. Coal trains delivered to the C.P. by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe retain BNSF power adding to the mix. Plus, see Soo Line locomotives in charge of trains as they once were before Canadian Pacific purchased the Soo.

Bluffs, valleys, bald eagles, barges and trains… the River Sub has it all! Experience railroad action from a different landscape that the Midwest has to offer. All of this and more in “Canadian Pacific, Along the Mighty Mississippi”!

Nebraska Panhandle Rails

From sandhills to farm fields, three major railroads travel through the vast countryside of western Nebraska. Take a ride in the cab with the Chicago & North Western as it transfers bentonite clay to the Burlington Northern in Crawford. Burlington Northern coal trains tackle the 2.2% grade of Crawford Hill with helper units. The C&NW also moves coal out of Wyoming on the recently constructed line to South Morrill. From there, the Union Pacific then takes the coal eastward. U.P. then shows off its high-speed movement on the Transcontinental Main Line.

Combo DVD: Chicago and North Western From the Cab / Shortline Railroading From The Cab

Chicago and North Western From the Cab

Join us as we ride along in the cab of Chicago and North Western SD-40 dash 2 #6814 on a typical run from Belle Fourche to Rapid City, South Dakota. This video incorporates all natural sound, with no narration, to get a “being there” effect of a day’s work in the cab. The trip begins in Belle Fourche, operating over 10 mile per hour tracks before reaching 40 miles per hour on ribbon rail south of St. Onge. We see local work being done and experience the ride into Rapid City.

Shortline Railroading From the Cab

Come along as C. Vision Productions rides the Nobles Rock Railroad in southwestern Minnesota. This is shortline railroading at its best! We ride along with the crew as they haul loaded grain hoppers from Luverne to the interchange track with the BNSF at Manley. Our cameras also capture the engineer working the throttle and brakes of the train in a GP-30 locomotive, as it progresses over the 10 mile per hour tracks.

And that’s not all! Take a ride on the Dakota Minnesota and Eastern’s 10th Anniversary Employee Special Train from Aurora to Arlington, South Dakota! You will not only get to view the scenery from the cab of the locomotive, but also from the three passenger cars as well.

If you enjoy railroad action from “on board”, you will definitely enjoy “Shortline Railroading, From the Cab”!

Duluth, Missabe And Iron Range - The Last Days

Head to the Iron Range in Minnesota and visit the Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range railroad. This classic ore hauling railroad operates with stunning maroon and gold locomotives that pass through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the state!

Our cameras capture the Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range in its final months before the rail line was bought out by the CN Railway in the spring of 2004. We follow movement on the Missabe Division from Duluth to the Minntac facility at Mt. Iron. You will also see T-Bird trains running from the Thunderbird North Mine in Eveleth to the recently reopened United Taconite Plant in Forbes. We then take you on a tour of the Iron Range Division from Iron Junction to Two Harbors.

DM&IR's rebuilt tunnel motor SD-40 dash 3's are accompanied by SD-38's and the Missabe's rebuilt SD-9 and SD-18 locomotives. You'll experience even more variety as you watch BNSF and CN "All-Rail" trains that traverse the DM&IR.

This video truly captures a time in history that can never be replaced. The Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range railroad shines in this documentary as C. Vision Productions captures its movements in The Last Days.

Fast Freight On The Bnsf's Trans-Con

Burlington Northern Santa Fe's transcontinental main line runs from Chicago to the ports in the Pacific Northwest. C. Vision Productions captures the images of BNSF trains traversing a section of the Trans-Con over the east end of the Staples Subdivision from Staples to Minneapolis, Minnesota.

This main line is full of train variety. Intermodal and stack trains dominate, but manifest, coal and grain also polish the iron of this main line. C. Vision spent many months following these trains, in all four seasons.

Several locomotives in the Heritage paint scheme head up trains, along with predecessors, Santa Fe and Burlington Northern. B.N.'s "Pulling for Freedom" SD-60M is also spotted just before it was repainted!

If you like high speed main line action, you won't want to miss this one. “Fast Freight on the BNSF's Trans-Con” shows you what BNSF main line action is all about!

From The Twin Ports To The Twin Cities

BNSF'S Hinckley Subdivision - Burlington Northern Santa Fe's Hinckley Subdivision carries a variety of railroad traffic from the Twin Ports of Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin to the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The Hinckley Sub is an important route for commodities moving to and from the shipping ports on Lake Superior.

This line will excite you as it shows trains from owner BNSF, along with Canadian Pacific and Union Pacific. Canadian National trains traversed this route under a haulage agreement with BNSF before the end of 1998. C. Vision cameras capture many CN trains on the Hinckley Sub before they shifted to the Wisconsin Central. You will also see Milwaukee Road steam locomotive, number 261, as it pulls a BNSF Employee Special train!

View beautiful scenery and colorful locomotives such as Soo Line, Chicago & North Western and Duluth Winnipeg & Pacific, pulling trains with each identified by their symbol. You will enjoy this video as it shows non-stop action from the north woods to the Twin Cities.

From The Twin Ports To The Twin Cities Volume 2

C. Vision Productions returns to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe’s Hinckley Subdivision! We last visited this line in 1998. Several things have changed since our last video and in late 2005, we decided to revisit this fascinating line in all four seasons!

Beginning at Coon Creek Junction in Coon Rapids, Minnesota we tour the line northward to Superior, Wisconsin. You will see coal trains now operating in distributive power mode. Additional BNSF taconite trains pound the rails along with many general freights, grain and potash trains. More Heritage paint schemes appear, including BNSF’s newest scheme introduced in 2005! Motive power varies from the traditional SD40-2’s and Dash9-44’s to the new ES-44AC and DC locomotives. What hasn’t changed is the variety of traffic from trackage rights trains from the Union Pacific and Canadian Pacific. The scenery on the northern part of the line is still as stunning as before, including the high trestle over the Kettle River near Sandstone, the Net River at Holyoke and the Black River and Nemadji River Bridges south of Superior.

Canadian National trains ceased operations on the Hinckley Sub in August of 1998. However, CN locomotives started making an appearance again in late 2005 as they pooled interchange operations with the Union Pacific. A few fallen flag locomotives are still seen including Soo Line, Burlington Northern, Santa Fe and Southern Pacific!

From the bustling metropolis of the Twin Cities to the vast scenery of the north woods, you won’t want to miss this show. Two hours of exciting railroad action from the Twin Ports to the Twin Cities!

High Iron Across The Hoosier State

Conrail/Norfolk Southern's Chicago Line - Many scenes in this video were captured in the very last days of Conrail, just prior to ‘big blue’s’ breakup into CSX & Norfolk Southern. You will also see other operations on the line as it is today, under the ownership of Norfolk Southern.

This busy corridor is also packed with other unique trains. Come along as we see several Amtrak trains including: The Pennsylvanian, Lake Shore Limited, and Capitol Limited. Images of a wide variety of run-through motive power are also captured from interchange partners Wisconsin Central, Union Pacific & Burlington Northern Santa Fe.

Another unique feature of The Chicago Line is that it often parallels the Chicago South Shore South Bend Railroad. Our cameras also capture several interurban and freight trains on this line.

The sheer volume and variety of trains on The Chicago Line are impressive! Whether it’s locomotives of the old Conrail, or the current black beauties of Norfolk Southern, you will be amazed by the impressive power in “High Iron Across the Hoosier State”!

Iowa, Chicago & Eastern

The “Coolest” Railroad on Earth

The Iowa, Chicago & Eastern is a Midwest regional formed in 2002 from the I&M Rail Link. The railroad operates on mostly ex-Milwaukee Road track in the states of Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin. In this show, we'll highlight operations over the entire system. From the beauty of the Mississippi Valley, to the serenity of Corn Belt, this video has it all.

In the summer of 2004, the IC&E re-activated most of the IMRL SD40's and, quite amazingly, SD9 #614. Other locomotives including former IMRL GP9's, SD45's, and of course ICE's SD40-2's and GP40-2's are seen in operation. Watch in awe as former Soo Line GP9 locomotives are seen in mainline local service between Nahant and Clinton, Iowa.

From surreal scenes of the moon rising over the Sabula causeway to
rotating stop sign-equipped Griswold crossing signals, this video is
something to behold. The Milwaukee #261, I&M Rail Link, Illinois Central,
Progressive Rail, and CP/Soo are also seen in this show. Regional railroads are an important part of Midwest railroading, and the IC&E’s operations are testament to the importance of keeping freight moving across the heartland. With the natural beauty of the land, combined with exceptional trains, this video shows you the best of the Iowa, Chicago and Eastern!
