"California Dreamin"
Return To Robert West Railroad Art
California Dreamin
The Canyon Limited, Circa 1950
Robert has recently been naming a lot of his prints after records. Jose Feliciano popularized California Dreamin. This print
was commissioned by one of the individuals responsible for refurbishing the 3751, the Santa Fe 4-8-4 Northern, which is now
running an excursion service for the BNXL. Most recently it was displayed at the California Rail Fair in Sacramento. In this
particular view the train is pulling the Grand Canyon Limited and is coming into the Fullerton, California train station in
1954. This is a suburban stop about 30-miles south of the Los Angeles Union Terminal. This particular location, is now one
of the more popular train watching spots in southern California. Here you can see about 150-170 trains a day. There are as
many as 120 trains on the BNSF Northern Santa Fe going into the port of Long Beach, about eight daily Amtrak trains, Caltrans
trains running commuter service up and down the coast as well as Metrolink trains which run commuter service in the greater
Los Angeles area. Once again, to say there are a total of 150-170 trains a day, is not really stretching the imagination very
far. As a matter of fact, that exact location can now has a webcam set up so you can keep an eye on things from the web.
