"Central Texas Memories"
Return To Robert West Railroad Art
THE TEXAS SPECIAL, NEAR SAN ANTONIO
A young girl stands in a field of Texas Blue Bonnets blowing bubbles. Robert says this painting exudes childhood youth and
ignorance. Robert is a postwar baby boomer, and remembers his life was simpler, when he was growing up, he and other children
found simple toys to play with and found ways to amuse and entertain themselves without getting into trouble. Robert wanted
this painting to exude that. He is frustrated by the recent rash of problems we've been having in the high schools. That's
what gave him the inspiration to do this painting. Even though it's the Texas Special in the background, the train just happens
to be coming by. The train is passing from point A to point B, because, just like the rest of his paintings, trains are not
a steady part of the environment. This is why he likes to reflect the trains as speed. This scene is set in the gentle rolling
hills of central Texas and a thunderstorm is moving out in the background, leaving a beautiful rainbow. You will notice the
Texas state flag on the barn. Most Texans are proud of where they live, so Robert decided that's a gung-ho Texas farmer that
raised his flag and is flying the colors proudly. This location is halfway between New Brussels, Texas and San Antonio, Texas.
The train is running on time, late in the evening, between 4:30 and 5:00.
