THE KING OF THE ROAD
Union Pacific Big Boy on Sherman Hill
A Union Pacific Big Boy steam locomotive drifts down the Western slope of Sherman Hill in Wyoming. The Big Boy was designed
and built to haul huge amounts of freight between Ogdon, Utah and Cheyenne, Wyoming on this grade. Out of Ogden Utah there is
a continuos rolling grade all the way to the state of Wyoming. This is where Robert was raised as a teenager and where he
witnessed mile long trains tackle the gradients thru Echo, and Weber canyons of the Wasatch Mountain Range. The Big Boy was
known for its Vesuviass Volcano-like smoke effects, as it made its upgrade. Robert specifically chose this birds-eye view
of a Big Boy in order to appropriate its enormous size and length. It is drifting downgrade, hence its light exhaust.
