A RAINY NIGHT IN GEORGIA II
Central of Georgia Railroad, Circa 1955
Here we have a Central of Georgia fast-freight, typically called Florida fast-freights. It's going through a thunderstorm,
halfway between Albany and Americus, Georgia. Basically the reason Robert chose that location is because his father was born
in South Georgia. That's Robert's grandmother's house in the background in that particular scene. What's notable in this
particular scene is the 1948 Chevy coming down the road with the 1955 Buick going the other direction in a blur. The
country store has its neon sign flashing which was so prevalent during those times. This is a painting that reflects
the 1950's with the memorabilia you would find at country stores almost anywhere across America. Even though the location
is South Georgia, it reflects a feeling that existed in America during the late 1940's and early 1950's. This is when
most mainlines paralleled highways or vice-versa, it is pre-interstate railroading.
